What’s On in West Wales This Week: 10-16 August 2026

Discover the Dragon at Pembroke Castle

Think dragons aren’t real? Pembroke Castle might make you think again.

Discover the Dragon returns to the historic castle as part of its summer programme, offering families the chance to join an adventure in search of Pembroke’s legendary dragon.

With the castle itself providing the backdrop, it’s a great way to combine some Welsh history with a fun family activity during the summer holidays.

Discover the Dragon takes place on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August, with further dates planned later in the month.

Torch Theatre Sunset Cinema: Jurassic World

Saturday 15 August | Twr y Felin Hotel, St Davids, Pembrokeshire

The Torch Theatre’s Sunset Cinema heads to St Davids this Saturday for an outdoor screening of Jurassic World in the grounds of Twr y Felin Hotel.

Part of the Torch Theatre’s summer Sunset Cinema programme, the event takes cinema out of the theatre and into some of Pembrokeshire’s most memorable locations.

This week’s screening brings the 2015 blockbuster Jurassic World to Twr y Felin, providing a spectacular setting for an evening of outdoor cinema.

The event starts at 7pm on Saturday 15 August.

Bring something comfortable to sit on and settle in for a summer evening of cinema under the Pembrokeshire sky.

For a more relaxed end to the week, Twr y Felin Hotel in St Davids is serving Sunday Lunch at Blas Restaurant.

The three-course menu celebrates seasonal Welsh produce, with flavours from both the land and sea at the heart of the experience.

Set within Twr y Felin, a contemporary art hotel just a short walk from the centre of St Davids, it offers a different way to spend a summer Sunday in Pembrokeshire.

Sunday Lunch is served from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Advance booking is recommended.

Space Safari: The Drone Light Show

Saturday 15 August | Ffos Las Racecourse, Carmarthenshire

One of the most unusual events taking place in West Wales this summer arrives at Ffos Las on Saturday.

Space Safari will transform the sky above the racecourse using hundreds of synchronised drones to create huge animations using light and sound.

The show combines drone technology with cinematic storytelling and narration from BAFTA-winning television presenter Michaela Strachan.

It promises to be quite a sight as hundreds of drones take to the Carmarthenshire night sky.

Dinomania at Cardigan Castle

Dinosaurs are heading to Cardigan Castle.

Dinomania arrives at the castle on Wednesday 12 August, bringing some prehistoric fun to one of Ceredigion’s best-known historic attractions.

The event starts at 10am and makes an ideal school holiday day out for younger dinosaur fans.

There’s also plenty of history to explore around the castle and its grounds while you’re there.

Cardigan River & Food Festival

Saturday 15 August | Cardigan, Ceredigion

Food, music and life on the River Teifi come together for one of Cardigan’s biggest summer events.

The Cardigan River & Food Festival returns to the quayside on Saturday 15 August, bringing together independent Welsh food producers alongside entertainment and activities on the river.

Visitors can expect food and craft stalls, live music, cookery demonstrations and children’s activities.

The River Teifi plays a major role in the day too, with traditional coracles, river races and other activities helping give the festival its distinctive Cardigan character.

The festival has been running since the late 1990s and has grown into a popular celebration of Welsh food and the town’s relationship with the river.

Make a weekend of it

With events spread across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, there’s plenty of reason to get out and explore West Wales this week.

You could spend Wednesday searching for dragons at Pembroke Castle or meeting dinosaurs in Cardigan, before heading into the weekend with one of the biggest food events in Ceredigion, watching hundreds of drones illuminate the sky above Ffos Las or enjoying an outdoor cinema experience in St Davids.

Then round off the week with Sunday lunch in St Davids.
